Damian Marcano and IBB produce short film on Curaçao

Filmmaker Damian Marcano, winner of the Yellow Robin Award 2014 with the film God Loves the Fighter, is currently filming the short film Heart of a Monster on Curaçao as part of an artist-in-residence program set up and hosted by art institute Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) in cooperation with CIFFR. The film, shot entirely on the island with students of IBB and local actors will premiere during the upcoming 5 edition of CIFFR.

Since the first edition in 2012, students of the Center of Contemporary Art IBB have participated in both the short film and photography competitions. Since 2014, IBB has organized the Kids Only workshops during the festival that are focussed on artistic and low-budget filmmaking and photography. To solidify the cooperation between the two organizations and as part of IBB’s 10  and CIFFR’s 5 anniversary celebrations, this new artist-in-residence project for emerging filmmakers from the Caribbean basin was started to encourage intercultural exchange.

After winning the Yellow Robin Award in 2014, Marcano participated in a filmproject in Rotterdam organized by IFFR in cooperation with View With a Room, resulting in the short film Giants that was filmed with local youth from Rotterdam-Zuid. The short film that is currently in production is also filmed in cooperation with students of IBB, local (amateur) actors and filmed entirely on location.

Besides main sponsors IBB and CIFFR, this project is made possible by Ennia with additional sponsoring from Mondriaan Fonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuur Fonds, Coca-Cola, Intertrust, National Car Rental, Stichting Uniek Curaçao, and Catis. With special thanks to Serenity Transfers& Tours, Zenovia’s Cottage, Bouwland, Lovers Ice, and Tittel-Tattle.
