Indian Qissa Opens Curaçao IFFR 2014

Curaçao 20 March 2014 – The program launch of the third edition of Curaçao IFFR attracted wide interest among the public and press tonight. With an extra day to the festival more than 50 films, documentaries, and short films will be screened in the week of 2 through 6 April. In addition, the festival area at Renaissance Mall will offer various activities for young and old during the festival week.

QISSAThe Indian film Qissa from filmmaker Anup Singh opens the festival officially on Wednesday 2 April. Qissa, the second feature of Singh (1961), born in Tanzania and raised in India, is a deeply moving drama about a Sikh family that only gives birth to daughters. The male heir of the family has to be fabricated. With amazing performances by Irrfan Khan and young Bengali talent Tillotama Shome.

From the record number of 30 entries for the local short film competition the jury has selected the Jury Award winners of 2014: in the Fiction genre: Sint Elisabeth by Anja Steffens , Yuri Kneppers and Ralph Durgaram. In the genre Documentary: Habri Bo Kurason by Ferdinand Rink and for the Music Video genre the Jury Award goes to The Heart of Creativity Stacey Bohorquez.

For the first time, the jury has awarded a honorable mention for one of the entries: the film Obstacles from Benjamin Martis, Lennon Aniceta and Hildomar Polonius has impressed the jury
All entries can be found on the YouTube channel of Curaçao IFFR . The Jury Award winning films will be screened prior to the five nominees for the Yellow Robin Award 2014 during the festival. The public is invited to vote for their favorite.
