‘Magic Lantern’: From Magic Lantern to Multimedia Projector

The second edition of the Curaçao International Film Festival Rotterdam (4 – 7 April 2013) will again present an exceptional exhibition that will be open to the public prior to and during the festival in the Renaissance Hotel: ‘”Magic Lantern”.

By making use of two extraordinary local private collections Curaçao will be shown by means of historical (analog) and modern (digital) visual communication technology.

A number of beautiful devices from the collection of the late Dr. Van Veldhoven, from magic lanterns to the various development stages of slide projectors and overhead projectors to the present-day multimedia projector, will be used for the projection of a selection of historical slides made by the late photographer Fred Fischer, whose collection is now housed at the National Archives. This combination will ensure a fascinating cultural-historical view of not only the development of these image projectors themselves but also of Curaçao.

By participating in the Black & White Digital Photography competition of the Curaçao IFFR, the public of Curaçao can actively contribute to this exhibition: in addition to the various presentations of historical slides from the collection of Fred Fischer, a collection and selection of the best entries to the competition will be shown on a daily basis. Check our website for details on how you can participate in this competition.
