A captivating, Spanish-language thriller by Iranian film master Asghar Farhadi, featuring acting royalty Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem. What starts off as a romantic wedding party soon becomes a nerve-wracking kidnapping drama. To get her daughter back alive, Laura has to get help from family and friends, which promptly reveals all manner of secrets.

Her sister’s wedding in their home village in Spain was supposed to be unforgettable. Laura (Penélope Cruz) has come over from Argentina with her son Diego and teenage daughter Irene. The latter has the time of her life meeting her Spanish family, learning to ride a scooter and falling in love. What starts out as a romantic wedding party soon turns into a nerve-wracking kidnapping drama. Laura has to get help from family and friends, in particular her ex Paco (Javier Bardem) to get her daughter back alive. This prompts all manner of secrets to emerge that have a major impact on Irene’s fate.

Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi has an impressive number of prizes to his name including an Oscar for A Separation and the scriptwriting prize from Cannes for The Salesman. This prompted the iconic, Spanish-speaking acting couple Cruz and Bardem to ask him to make Todos lo saben with them. This has resulted in a compelling, brooding, realistic thriller perfectly aligned with Farhadi’s much-praised oeuvre.

Asghar FARHADI (1972) studeerde theater aan de universiteit van Teheran en de Tarbiat Modares-universiteit. Hij regisseerde verschillende 8mm- en 16mm-films voor de Young Iranian Cinema Society, schreef een aantal scripts voor de Iraanse televisie en regisseerde vele populaire tv-series, waaronder A Tale of a City (2000). Het intense scheidingsdrama A Separation (2011) won meer dan zeventig internationale filmprijzen, waaronder de Gouden Beer én twee Zilveren Beren in Berlijn, een César, een Golden Globe en een Oscar.
