Thursday 12 September, Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine (drama/comedy) marks the start of a new series of monthly screenings leading up to the 3rd edition of Curaçao International Film Festival Rotterdam that will take place from 2 till 6 April 2013.
After his European tour (o.a. Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Midnight in Paris, To Rome with Love) director Allen returns to American soil with Blue Jasmine. This time not so much to his beloved New York, however, but to east coast San Francisco.
Actress Cate Blanchett shines as New York socialite Jasmine who, thanks to her marriage to wealthy businessman Hal (Alec Baldwin), holds everything her heart desires until she loses all luxury and status due to Hal’s shady business practises. The snobby but troubled Jasmine decides to seek refuge with her younger, down-to-earth, and modest sister Ginger (Sally Hawkins) in San Francisco. She tries to help get Jasmine back on her feet by encouraging her to seek personal happiness and success by herself. However, Jasmine finds it hard to get used to her new social environment.
Blue Jasmine is screened daily at The Cinemas starting Thursday 12 September.
