Stoker closes festival 2013

The international premiere of Stoker will close IFFR 2013 on Saturday 2 February. Tickets for the much anticipated English debut of South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-Wook (Oldboy, Thirst, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance) are already available online.

Park has won many awards, including the Alfred Bauer Award of the Berlin film festival (for I’m a Cyborg) in 2007) and the jury prize of the Cannes film festival (for Oldboy in 2004 and Thirst in 2009).

Mysterious uncle
The closing film is a psychological drama/thriller starring Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, Jane Eyre), Matthew Goode (A Single Man, Watchmen) and Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Moulin Rouge). Stoker is the script writing debut of actor Wentworth Miller (Prison Break).

Stoker is about the girl India (Wasikowska), whose father dies in an auto accident. Her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother Evelyn (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, India comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

IFFR’s Closing Night screening of Stoker takes place in the Grand Auditorium (‘Grote Zaal’) of festival venue ‘de Doelen’ at 21:00 hours, and will be preceded by the announcement of the UPC Audience Award for best festival film and the Dioraphte Award for best Hubert Bals Fund-supported film.

Tickets for the Closing Night Film, also available in combination with the Closing Night Party, are now up for sale on the page of the Closing Night 2013. Stoker will be released in the Netherlands on 11 April 2013.
